▼Title
Black Tea Bowl by Raku Kichizaemon XV
▼About the Work
The Raku Kichizaemon family has been preserving the technique and spirit of rakuware for 450 years, since their ancestor Chojiro I was first making tea bowls in the Momoyama period (1568-1600). The unusual flow of this elegant, black glaze makes it appear as though the bowl is split between top and bottom, along with reflecting a variety of colors under light.
★This product is confirmed to be a work of Raku Kichizaemon XV.
▼About the Artist
【Raku Kichizaemon XV】1949 - Present
After graduating Tokyo Geidai in 1973, he studied in Italy for two years then began his professional potter journey after returning home. He worked hard under his father's (Raku Kichizaemon XIV) guidance and at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute until, in 1980, his father passed away. He then assumed the name Raku Kichizaemon XV in 1981. In the years following he actively participated in various group and solo exhibitions, receiving awards such as the Ceramic Society of Japan Award (1987), the Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Encouragement Award (1990), and the Mokichi Okada Award at the 6th MOA Exhibition (1993). His innovative style is less traditional than his father's, bringing traditional tea ceremony ceramics to the modern age with his excellent sense of form and color.
