▼About the Artist
【Ikkei Kakutani】
Born in 1904 as the second generation Kakutani, he learned metal casting with his father from a young age. He exhibited and won an award at the Osaka Craft Exhibition when he was 21. Kakutani proceeded to take over the family business and produced iron kettles, tea kettles, and other tea ceremony utensils. He also produced multiple white bronze mirrors for Ise Jingū Shrine in both 1973 and 1993 and gained public acclaim. In 1978 he became the holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property “Chanoyū Kama”, (Tea Ceremony Kettles) designating him as a Living National Treasure.
